Daisy Pulls it Off
This year’s College Production was a fun and frolicking romp through 1920s boarding school life and another fantastic collaboration between our Music and Drama departments.
The story centres around Daisy, a new scholarship girl from a modest background who stands up to the class prejudices of the other more privileged schoolgirls with the help of her new friend Trixie. It references a bygone age where people use words like ‘spiffing’ and ‘splendiferous’. This year’s production added a contemporary twist, featuring music including, Cyndi Lauper’s Girls Just Want to Have Fun, and a song from High School Musical to accompany a choreographed hockey match sequence.
The cast was made up of enthusiastic and talented first year students, who took College Production as their Extension Studies. Some of the leads had the challenge of learning a lot of dialogue in a short amount of time, which is impressive to manage alongside their studies!
The Pit Band are 6.1 and 6.2 Music A Level students who enjoy rehearsing together every Wednesday after school under the creative musical leadership of 6.2 student, Joshua Jarvis.
Second year students supported the cast and became the production team including responsibilities in directing and choreographing during the process and were the stage management and technical crew for the show.
“It’s great to see students from across the College come together on this collaborative and creative project and have fun whilst doing it.” – Jayne Taylor, Head of Drama and Director.
Mary Cassidy, Drama and Theatre Teacher and Co-Director, echoed this sentiment: “It has been great to be part of this energetic and creative bunch of staff and students on a Wednesday afternoon and it is always amazing how between us we can get the show on its feet when the students only started in September, and we just have one rehearsal a week!”
Congratulations to all Cast and Crew!
