Remembering Keith Blackwell
The College community was saddened by the recent news of Keith Blackwell’s passing, a former Principal whose leadership from 1998 to 2010 left a lasting impact.
Keith was known for his ambitious vision and dynamic personality.
Jo Canessa, Librarian and Learning Resources Manager, recalls, “Keith’s clear vision, strong leadership, and commitment to excellence shaped the college. His colourful socks always raised a smile!”
Current Principal Dan Hards reflects on Keith’s connection with students. “He always made time to really engage with the students, ensuring they remained motivated and excited about their educational journey. His dedication to their success was one of his defining traits.”
In 2009, whilst at Esher, Keith was awarded an OBE in recognition of his significant contributions to further education on both a local and national level. Mr Blackwell discovered he had been awarded the OBE when he looked on the internet shortly after midnight on New Year’s Day.
“I was stunned,” he said. “It’s not only a great honour for me but for the College as well”.
Keith will be remembered for his bold leadership, unwavering commitment to education, and unmistakable flair. In lieu of flowers, he requested donations to Greenpeace, a cause close to his heart. To honour his wishes, the College has donated £200 to Greenpeace and will announce further plans to commemorate his legacy, in the near future.
