Comprehensive Support for University Aspirations
Each year, the College processes over 850 UCAS applications. With excellent teamwork and an exceptional system, we give our students the best possible chance of first-choice offers.
Guiding students through their journey to university is a key priority here at Esher Sixth Form College. Last year, we were thrilled to see 86% of our students secure a place at their first-choice university.
Processing such a high volume of applications requires a strong system and excellent teamwork. Our UCAS team here at College consists of Becky, Wendy, Veronica, Cat, Sally, and Anna, who all work tirelessly throughout the first term to support students. The process is thorough and detailed, and more complicated than some might think.
What does the process involve?
When students feel ready to submit their UCAS application, they visit the team in the Progression Guidance area for an admin check of their online form. This step is crucial as the form is complex, and it’s easy to make mistakes. Once the form is all correct, the students complete their payment on the UCAS Hub and their application moves to the next stage: the tutor reference.
Tutors, with input from subject teachers, craft personalised references that highlight each student’s strengths. These references undergo further checks to ensure they meet our high standards. Predicted grades are then added, and the finalised application is sent to UCAS.
Anna Young, Head of Progression Guidance, said, “Given the high number of applications we handle, this process can take up to six weeks after the student initially submits – but we know our students will get good offers and we work hard to ensure that applications are sent off in line with our deadlines.”
At Esher Sixth Form College, our mission is to empower students to achieve their aspirations, and our comprehensive UCAS process is just one example of how we bring this to life.
