Discover our Extension Studies, Trips and Visits and Wider Skills Activities

At Esher, we know how important it is for our students to develop life skills beyond the curriculum.

Every student will choose a timetabled Extension Study option in their first term. In your second term you can add more options to suit your academic goals and interests.  There is also an abundance of subject-based Trips and Visits, plus two dedicated days in the summer term to Wider Skills Activities to choose from, including taster sessions in Learning Latin, Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL), Advanced CAD design, Photography, Rock Band, and First Aid at Work Training.

Don’t take our word for it.
Hear from our students below about how their enrichment options are helping them develop essential skills for life:

Law Pathway

“I took a Law Pathway as my extension study which includes law-based activities like taking part in the Bar Mock Trials. I’ve also combined this with a weekly Pilates class, which allows me to fit in some exercise into my day, as well as relax and decompress from the demands of my academic subjects.”

Men's Basketball

“Joining the Basketball team at Esher helped me meet new people outside of my classes, and also improved my skills in teamwork and leadership, as well as Basketball.”

Model United Nations

“Taking part in Model United Nations (MUN) as my extension study furthered my passion for international relations and gave me an insight into how diplomacy works. It’s given me more confidence, whilst enabling me to make so many new friends.”

Critical Thinking Pathway

“At Esher, I do the Sewing Bee extension study and I’m on the College’s Women’s Basketball team, which has helped me learn to communicate while in high stress games!  I’ve also added the Critical Thinking excellence pathway to my timetable, which is helping me gear up my thinking for more complexity so I am better prepared to apply to higher status universities.”

EPQ

“Taking the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) helped me develop my writing and research techniques, which I could apply to my History A Level course.  My EPQ was on ‘How racial and gender bias within the Metropolitan Police affects public opinion.’ I had to give a presentation and learnt how to properly present to a group of people, speaking clearly, confidently, and answering questions I was not prepared for.”
