Meet the New Student Union
We are thrilled to introduce ourselves as your newly elected Student Union.
Hello everyone,
We are eager to bring fresh ideas and positive changes to our college community and commemorate the work we have done so far.
Our team consists of:
Alex, our Student Union President: ‘It has been a fun experience meeting and settling in with the rest of the team – I have enjoyed the events we have already planned and look forward to an exciting diary of social events when the new term starts in September.’
Daniela, our Student Union Vice President: ‘I aim to improve the day-to-day student experience and will try my hardest to represent the concerns of students at the college. In the upcoming year, myself and the rest of the Student Union will be hard at work ensuring that events and fundraisers are effectively organised, through my handling of the treasury and the behind-the-scenes administration.’
Maddie, our Marketing and Communications Executive: ‘My role is about upholding a positive and safe online presence. I will also make sure that there is a direct path of communication between the students and staff by publishing forms, where students can give us their constructive criticism and feedback, which I will then pass on. I have loved being a part of such a great team and I am excited to see what we achieve next!’
Ewelina, our Eco and Sustainability Executive: ‘I work closely with the Eco Committee to help make our college eco-friendlier. We manage the allotment, host green events and introduce new eco-friendly ideas. This year I’ve helped with planning the summer festival as well as running the stall for our pride event in June.’
Hannah, our Events and Charities Executive: ‘We have organised an ice lolly fundraiser and two bake sales for ECAT and Young Minds, so far. Collaborating with such a fantastic team of like-minded individuals has inspired me to work harder in organising college events, and I’m eager to make a positive impact in the year ahead.’
Liv, our Equalities and Welfare Executive: ‘I have really improved my communication, empathy, and leadership skills, which have been vital for my role. I am so proud of these accomplishments and look forward to continuing my growth with the Student Union next year.’
Following our bake sale during Mental Health Week in May, we were able to raise £100 for Young Minds, a youth mental health charity. Despite our initial nerves leading up to the event, it ended up being a successful day and all our goods sold out quickly! This boosted our confidence and provided valuable lessons that helped inform our planning in subsequent events.
We later organised other events, such as an ice lolly sale in support of the Esher College Africa Trust where we raised £50. We also hosted a pride event in June where we sold all sorts of pride merchandise, provided glitter face painting, and handed out leaflets to raise awareness about the LGBTQIA+ community.
More recently, we participated in the Parents Information Evenings, Taster Days for prospective year 11 students, and Open Days for year 10 students considering applying to Esher. During these events, we worked with the Student Ambassadors and served mocktails and cakes to enhance the experience.
Then, our most anticipated event of the year: the Summer Festival! Throughout the day, we had numerous food vendors, including the Dough Shack, which served delicious pizzas, and an ice cream van that proved extremely popular. A lively football match between Surrey police and College staff and students provided plenty of entertainment, with our team achieving an overwhelming victory. The match was even commentated by the SU President Alex Cronje.
We also hosted a talented Year 13 student who sold her handmade jewellery, set up a wipeout inflatable that made for some fantastic photos, and enjoyed live music from our very own music department. Overall, the event exceeded our expectations and provided a fantastic end to the term.
As we wrap up another incredible year at Esher Sixth Form College, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who made our events and initiatives possible. From the lively Summer Festival to the engaging Taster/Open Days, each moment reflects how spirited our college community is. Here’s to a successful year ahead filled with new opportunities and memorable experiences.
Warm regards,
The Esher College Student Union
