Latest News and What’s Next from the SU
It’s been a busy term for the Student Union, filled with events, discussions, and lots of energy. Here is a wrap-up of what we have done and a sneak peek at what’s next.
Maddie Cruise, SU Marketing Executive, reports.
We kicked off the term with our Freshers’ Fair in the cafe. It was a great way to welcome our new 6.1 students and show them some of what college life has to offer. With live music from our talented Music students, friendly chess matches, and plenty of information stands, it was great to see so many people connecting and finding new interests.
Another highlight was the Pizza and Ping-Pong Icebreaker, where new students got to mingle and relax with food and a little friendly competition. It was great to see everyone come together, share laughs, and make new connections.
One of the most creative events this term was Anything But A Bag Day, where students showed off their inventiveness by bringing their belongings in the most unusual “bags.” The winners really stood out: one brought in a massive toy goose, another carried a paddling pool, and the final winner opted for a classic bucket. All three earned vouchers for their efforts – definitely well-deserved.
We have also had our first Student Representative Meetings of this year, where we got to meet the new 6.1 reps and have important discussions on how we can make the year even better. Already, their suggestions and input have made such an impact, and we are really excited about how these plans will take shape.
December has also been quite the month for giving back. The Christmas Bake Sale was a huge success, where money was raised to go to a homeless charity. A special thanks to the cafe staff for baking all of the goods – your support made the sale possible. The 6.1 Hampers Initiative also collected for the local Elmbridge food bank – so thanks to all who provided something. Your generosity really is appreciated and will go a long way in helping those in need.
We wrapped up the year with the Christmas Fair. It’s a fun way to end the term, with games, stalls, and a festive atmosphere. After the break, we’ll kick off 2025 with a Pyjama Day, giving everyone a chance to start the new year in comfort.
Big thanks to everyone who’s taken part in or supported Student Union events this term. Your involvement and enthusiasm have made this a great start to the year. Wishing you all a relaxing break and a strong start to 2025.
