In a dazzling evening of celebration, the Departments of Photography and Film & Media Studies, hosted their annual award ceremony, the Esher Oscars.

Held in the College Theatre, the event honoured the finest works produced by this year’s graduating classes, spanning five courses: A Level Photography, A Level Film Studies, A Level Media Studies, BTEC Digital Video Production, and BTEC Film & TV Production.

The ceremony featured 19 categories, showcasing the diverse talents of the students. The evening began with the Best Direction award for FTC, which was claimed by Adam Morschner. Other notable winners included Thea Cardwell for Best Fashion Photography, Fletcher Page for Best Film Marketing, Nathan Walker for both Best Short Film Horror/Thriller and Best Technical, and Henry Boyle for Best Music Video in Media Studies.

  • Best Photographic Manipulation: Zuzanna Slowinska
  • Best Short Film Drama, Comedy, Experimental: Nihal Nijor
  • Best Fine Art Photography: Milly Chong

The climax of the evening was the presentation of the final award, Best Music Video for FTD, given by former teacher and technician James Goodchild. This accolade went to Joey Morgan-Taylor, a talented student in both Photography A Level and Film and Television Production BTEC.

Reflecting on the event, James Goodchild remarked, “It was such an amazing evening. It was really nice to be invited and have the chance to see the work produced by the students I taught in their first year at Esher. They’ve come so far, and the work they’ve made is really impressive.”

Ali Holden, Head of Photography, shared his excitement: “It’s been my first year at Esher, and I’ve been blown away by the quality of work produced by our students. They’ve made my start at Esher a year to remember!”

Lee Bone, Head of Film & Media Studies, echoed these sentiments, stating, “Events like this are really important. It was great to be able to get everyone together to showcase and celebrate all the amazing work that has been produced this year. All of the nominees and winners should be really proud of what they’ve achieved. We’re really proud of them.”

The Esher Oscars 2024 not only celebrated individual accomplishments but also highlighted the collaborative spirit and exceptional talent nurtured within the College’s creative community.
