A Poetic Masterclass with Jacob Sam-La Rose

Students studying English Language and Literature A Level were treated to an engaging and interactive talk by renowned poet, Jacob Sam-La Rose, whose work features on their course.

Sam-La Rose captivated an audience of both 6.1 and 6.2 students with a deep dive into three poems from his collection Breaking Silence: After Lazerdrome, Magnitude, and Turning Darker Still.

The talk was both informative and thought-provoking, with students given the chance to explore the themes and nuances of the poems. Sam-La Rose also invited students to share their interpretations, showing genuine interest in their perspectives.

Following the talk, Jacob stayed behind to answer additional questions and sign copies of Breaking Silence, leaving a lasting impression on the group. Students described the session as “useful” and “inspiring,” appreciating the rare opportunity to engage directly with a writer whose work they are studying.
