Principal’s Update
Dan Hards, Principal of Esher Sixth Form College, celebrates achievements, enriching experiences, and the power of community.
Dear Parents, Carers, Students, and Friends,
Welcome to this edition of the Esher Sixth Form College newsletter. It has been another busy term, with exciting activities and achievements across all areas of the College, all of which you will find within this December Newsletter.
Celebrating Achievements and Enriching Experiences
Our students continue to excel both academically and in extracurricular activities. This term has seen several achievements, including outstanding results in the Senior Mathematical Challenge and an inspiring Politics trip, where students witnessed an historic House of Commons debate. These experiences enrich our students’ understanding and engagement well beyond the classroom.
In the creative arts, the College Production of Daisy Pulls It Off brought together students’ acting, musical, and technical talents. Our Music Department also delivered memorable performances through collaborations, open mic nights, and the Christmas Concert, showcasing the depth of talent within our community.
The Geography Department kept students engaged with hands-on fieldwork and discussions on geopolitics, while the English Department hosted poet Jacob Sam-La Rose for a masterclass, offering students the opportunity to explore their creativity and refine their skills.
Christmas Spirit and Community Engagement
The festive season has been a time of giving and community connection and our 6.1 students and their families demonstrated remarkable generosity by assembling 50 hampers for the East Elmbridge Foodbank.
Pathways and Opportunities
This term, the Degree Apprenticeships Fair offered invaluable insights into paid learning pathways for students exploring alternatives to university. At the same time, our UCAS process is well underway, with students receiving tailored guidance and support as they prepare for the next stage of their academic journeys.
ALPS Top 25%
We are proud to share that our A Level courses have been rated highly by ALPS, a national measure that evaluates the progress students make during their studies. This year, our results show that students at Esher Sixth Form College are in the top 25% nationally for progress made from their starting points. These strong outcomes reflect the dedication of our students and the excellent teaching and support provided by our staff.
Looking Ahead
It was fantastic to welcome so many Year 11 students and their families to our recent “Welcome to Esher” events. The positive feedback, particularly about the student panel, was heartening. If you missed this event, you can download the presentation here. Course interviews are now underway as we look forward to welcoming another talented cohort of students in the coming year.
As we close this term, I would like to extend my gratitude to everyone who has contributed to the College’s success. I hope you enjoy reading about our community’s achievements, and I look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events.
Best regards,
Dan Hards
Principal
