The Women’s Rugby team has built on last season’s resurgence, welcoming a wave of new talent from the 6.1 cohort and delivering a string of impressive performances in tournaments this year.

Under the leadership of captains Hannah J. and Izzy B., the team has developed a strong sense of cohesion and commitment, with players demonstrating continuous growth and determination. Their efforts have been on full display across three major competitions so far: two Association of Colleges (AoC) festivals and one Rugby Football Union (RFU) South East festival. Competing in both 7-a-side and 10-a-side formats, the team showcased a powerful blend of strong defence and creative attacking play, securing more wins than losses and racking up an impressive tally of tries.

With one fixture still to come, the team is now preparing for their first full 15-a-side match against Tiffin School. This highly anticipated game will not only test their development but also mark an exciting new chapter for women’s rugby at Esher.” Andy Powell, Rugby Coach

For this fixture, the team will be clustering with Godalming College, forming a partnership that will allow them to enter the AoC league for the 2025/26 season and beyond. This move will ensure that Esher’s women’s rugby team enjoys the same opportunities for regular 15-a-side competition as the men’s team, strengthening the sport’s presence at the college and attracting more players in the future.

If you are a current first year who plays rugby outside college, or you are a new player wanting to give it a go, please be aware that you can choose women’s rugby for your progression pathway in your second year, and the team would love to have you onboard.
